R.I.P. Bowie

I woke up this morning to the news that yet another legendary artist has passed away only a few days after their birthday, and due to cancer.

David Bowie had been battling cancer for about 18 months, according to reports.

I had just listened to the new single, Lazarus, this weekend.  It is an amazing song.

I was introduced to David Bowie in the 80’s.  My uncle had the album Let’s Dance in his collection, and I would listen to it front to back, over and over.  Then he came out with Tin Machine, and I was hooked.

Bowie did not stick to just one genre of music.  He just made good music.  In the 90’s he hooked up with Trent Reznor to be Afraid of Americans.

I’m not a giant fan of Bowie’s.  But there’s no denying that his music has influenced me.  His smooth singing that had power behind it, the characters he portrayed.  The simple, yet haunting melodies.  I’m glad he was able to put out such a great final album.
