Recuperation Update PDF Print E-mail

My strength is coming back. I'm working with a physical therapist to get my muscles back up to speed. Unfortunately, the surgeons say that it'll be at least another 4 weeks before my voice might come back fully... and that's "might". There's a chance that I might be stuck with this hoarse whisper, and not be able to sing. George will hate that, because then I'll make him sing my parts!

I got my surgical report. It's very interesting. I posted the whole thing on my other blog IhaveMarfan.com, but here's a small interesting part:

"The patient was cooled systemically to 25 degrees Celsius. Fibrillation ensued. The left atrium was opened longitudinally just anterior to the pulmonary veins..."

Just interesting to see, that not only was my heart disconnected from my body, but that I was also cooled down, to slow down my brain activity, and that one lung was deflated.

Well, I found it interesting anyway!

And in other news - I cut my hair.... completely off. I wanted to be like George. Actually, I've always thought about being bald in the summer, and I figured this was as good a time as any.

PICT0072So, this is me one week out of surgery. My hair is overgrown, so is my Fu-manchu goatee thing. I feel like I look like one of the Oakridge Boys.

On my shoulder is my security blanket. Actually it's a blanket that I folded up and put under my arm to put pressure on my incision when I need to cough or sneeze... and that prevents a lot of pain!

PICT0076This is all of it coming off. This is also why my wife and I get along so well... because she has no problem doing this.

PICT0079_1And this is the final product. Remember, I'm not drunk, I'm only one week out of surgery (actually 5 days).
